A Château Eza Wedding in the Village of Èze

An intimate French Riviera celebration on the cliffside between Nice and Monaco

There is a particular kind of light on the French Riviera in the late afternoon, when the sun begins its slow descent toward the sea and the whole coastline turns gold. I have photographed in many beautiful places, but few hold that light quite like Èze. This medieval village clings to a rocky peak more than four hundred metres above the Mediterranean, halfway between Nice and Monaco, its narrow stone streets climbing toward a summit that looks out over the entire Côte d'Azur. It is the kind of place that feels almost unreal the first time you see it, and it was here, at Château Eza, that Jilian and Bret chose to marry.

They had come a long way for it. The two of them live in San Diego, and they made the journey to the south of France for their celebration, arriving in Èze the day before to settle into the village. There is something I love about couples who choose a place this far from home. It tells you that the setting matters to them, that they were drawn to something specific: the history held in these stone walls, the drama of the cliffside, the quiet intimacy of a village where everything happens on foot.

What unfolded over the course of the day was a celebration that lived in two worlds at once. On one side, the rustic, deeply authentic spirit of an old French village, all weathered stone, winding alleys, and centuries of history. On the other, the bright, refined glamour of the Riviera: a sublime sunset over the water, refined French cuisine, a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean stretching out below. Jilian and Bret moved through it all with a rare ease, tender with each other and entirely at home in front of the camera, surrounded by the people closest to them for a celebration that felt as intimate as it was beautiful. Their wedding was also featured on Carats and Cake, and if you are dreaming of a wedding somewhere like this, I would love to hear your story.

Your Wedding Photographer in Èze and Across the French Riviera

Some weddings stay with you long after the day itself, and this was one of them. Jilian and Bret travelled all the way from San Diego to marry in a village perched between the sky and the sea, and what they created at Château Eza was exactly what a destination wedding should be: intimate, deeply personal, and rooted in a place that could not be anywhere else in the world. The rustic soul of the old stone village, the glamour of the Côte d'Azur, a sublime sunset, refined French cuisine, and a small circle of people who travelled far to be together. It held everything I love about photographing weddings here.

As a wedding photographer on the French Riviera, I am endlessly drawn to Èze and this stretch of coastline between Nice and Monaco. There is nowhere quite like it: the light, the history, the drama of the cliffs above the Mediterranean. Whether you are dreaming of an intimate celebration at Château Eza, a wedding further along the coast in Saint-Tropez, or one of the many beautiful venues across the South of France, I would be honoured to tell your story with the same care, emotion, and attention to detail.

If this celebration spoke to you, let's create something just as beautiful together.
